Who are we?

We are Hempland Lane Allotment society based in York, North Yorkshire.

Where are we?

The allotments occupy a large site off Hempland Lane. A number of vehicle entrances are available, one from Hempland Lane itself the other from Whitby Avenue with both of these leading to car parking areas. In addition a number of footpaths lead to the site, one running from Stray Road.

The site is divided up into over a 100 individual plots although some are "half size". A full size plot occupies an area approximately 30 ft by 60 ft. The map below shows the layout of the site as it stood in Autumn 2005:

What do we do?

As a society we aim to keep the hempland lane site in good health. Typically this involves making sure all the available plots are being put to good use and trying to build a real community with our members. We try to publish a quarterly newsletter to keep everyone up to date and also have an AGM meeting, which allows everyone to get involved. We also try to arrange social events such as BBQ's during the summer. One of the best places to meet other members (apart from on their plots of course) is 'The Hut', which also doubles as our allotment shop. Here you can buy, seeds, seedlings, plants, accessories and sometimes even produce grown by our members on site. This is open every Sunday 10am until 12 so do come along and say hello if you can and we hope to see you soon.
